A cast of hundreds will recreate 800 years of living history.  Listed below are just some of the groups performing at Dockyard 800.

Medieval

The Erpyngham Retinue: Early C15th English knights, archers and men-at-arms from the Agincourt campaign.

 

Purbrook Company of Bowmen: Archery and living history

The Household:  Late C12th men at arms from the earliest times of the dockyard.


Tudor

The Tudor Group and King Edward's School C16th Living History Group will operate around the Mary Rose Museum and the recreated Mary Rose galley.

 

Farthingale: King Henry VIII and wives (promenading performers)


C18th

The Senior Service – C18th Royal Navy sailors on shore.

 

History Horse: A mounted customs officer, with mini equestrian display and talks.

Napoleonic:

The Historical Maritime Society: Trafalgar era officers, sailors and marines recreating life on board HMS Victory. musket and carronade firing, plus cutter.

Victory Rigger

 

2nd Battalion, 95th Rifles. Crack British riflemen, black powder/rifle firing.

 

HMS Victory's own 12 Pounder gun fired live. The 12 Pounder gun is on loan from Fort Nelson and the replica gun deck that will hold the gun is on loan from English Heritage

 

Ancient Wisdom: 2 x one man interactive shows about the strategy and tactics of Battle of the Nile.


Victorian

The Fort Cumberland Guard: Displays by Victorian marines, bandsmen and artillerymen.

 

The Alabama Crew: American Civil War Confederate crewmen of the CSS Alabama, on board HMS Warrior.

 

Hands on History: Talks and activities about the Victorian civilian shipping world and exploration.

 

Gerry Burrows: Victorian rope making, with audience participation.


Edwardian

The Antarctic Adventurers: Polar explorers of Captain Scott’s era, with original and reproduction artefacts, including clothing from the TV film Shackleton.


WWI

The Bluejackets: RN crewmen .


WWII

US Navy Shore Patrol: WWII US naval military police living history, with jeep.

 

The Spitfires: 1940s female singing trio, excellent music and song.

 

Ancient Wisdom: wearing his “other hat”, Stephen Wisdom will present a couple of interactive shows about the Battle of Britain and the Luftwaffe offensive, including against Portsmouth. Sat 15th September is Battle of Britain Day.

 

Solent Overloard Executive and Military Vehicle Trust: WWII vehicles and drivers.

 

43. Recce. British WWII military vehicles


1980s

Forces 80: Falkland’s era troops and static display.

 

Past Regiments: Falklands to modern British army with 1 or 2 jeeps.
